The difference a year makes

One year ago, in May of 2018, I created my first colored pencil portrait of Scarlet and Remy, better known as my Grand Minions. They belong to my Daughter Taylor Pryde, and her Fiance, Nick Grant. I had no idea what I was doing yet, only that I wanted to create a likeness of these babies for their human parents. Below, is the framed piece.

I was happy with the result, but so unsure of myself, and if I would ever truly get the hang of working in colored pencils, and truly create the images I saw in my head. Would they ever really translate to the paper?
Fast forward to today, I have just completed their portrait again, after one year. I have gained confidence, learned techniques, and practiced almost every day since April of 2017, there were very few times that I didn't pick up a pencil or watch a YouTube tutorial, or practice with some of the wonderful tutorials I have found on sites I am a member of. I have found many artists to aspire to and learn from in this past year.
Here below is the new portrait of Scarlet and Remy, and just below that the side by side comparison from this year on the left to last May, 2017.
